UNICEF

Background:

Recurrent drought and conflict plagued the East Africa Region for years.  UNICEF and Save the Children conducted a country-level Infant and Young Child Feeding in Emergency (IYCF-E) capacity mapping assessment for South Sudan, Kenya, and Somalia. The results of this capacity mapping assessment helped form a regional IYCF Framework for Action to serve as a guideline for all countries.

The request:

The GNC TST support was requested to facilitate the validation of the outputs from the IYCF-E capacity mapping and framework for action, highlighting common priority areas in the three countries in East Africa.

You can find out more about IYCF-E on our website or submit any questions or technical queries you may have through our request page

Save the Children

Background:

Save the Children developed a 2019-2021 Country Strategic Plan (CSP) to support its humanitarian and development work in 12 countries in  East and Southern Africa. Given the importance of Community engagement and behavior change to implement the plan, Save the Children conducted a Nutrition Social Behavior Change Communication (SBCC) mapping exercise which identified several capacity gaps. For example, countries did not have an SBCC strategy to guide the implementation of SBCC activities, activities were implemented in an ad hoc manner because of untrained staff, and countries required capacity building in research and M&E.

The request:

Save the Children, being a member of the Global Nutrition Cluster (GNC) sought technical assistance from the GNC Technical Alliance to support prioritized country offices (South Sudan and Zimbabwe) in building their in-country SBCC capacities and programming.

You can find out more about SBC on our website or submit any questions or technical queries you may have through our request page
